HT BENDIX A/S, based in Herning, Denmark, is a leading distributor of furniture fittings, including screws, handles, and wires. Despite a workforce of only 80 employees and a lean IT department of two, the company operates a global, highly optimized supply chain. Components are sourced globally, assembled in Poland, and returned to Denmark for final distribution. This operational model allows HT BENDIX A/S to deliver high volumes and precision in an environment where agility and cost-efficiency are paramount.
The nature of furniture assembly requires logistical precision - each furniture item demands accurate combinations of fittings, pre-packed into customer-specific kits. With frequent design changes and customization from clients, HT BENDIX A/S must manage thousands of component variations. These must be delivered rapidly and competitively, demanding not only logistical coordination but also real-time, accurate data management.
HT BENDIX A/S has relied on IBM i technology since 1988, beginning with the AS/400 B10 system. Over the decades, this platform has matured with the company, becoming the backbone of all core operations. Today, IBM Power and IBM i provide the stable foundation for the business’s integrated digital infrastructure.
In collaboration with System & Method, and through the Open Source Licensed Program, HT BENDIX A/S implemented advanced web-based interfaces and digital tools using the Sitemule Platform. Two key modules played a transformative role:
The Sitemule Hub acts as the central interface connecting customers, partners, and suppliers within a unified IBM i-native ecosystem. At HT BENDIX A/S, it serves as the integration point between the ERP system, the web-based B2B platform, and the Product Information Management (PIM) system.
The Hub ensures real-time synchronization of product data and transactional information.
Customers gain a seamless experience with live access to product catalogs, order placement, invoice management, and shipment tracking.
Internally, the Hub reduces duplication, errors, and delays by enabling consistent data flow and secure communication through RESTful services and JSON.
This solution has not only increased responsiveness to customer inquiries but also streamlined eCommerce operations without disrupting existing IBM i applications.
The Sitemule Architect module was employed to build an internal project and cost management solution tailored for purchasing and sales departments.
It enabled the transformation of legacy Db2 structures into a modern SQL relational model using a Domain Model Design approach.
With dynamic grid interfaces and visual data modeling, the Architect module empowered business users to navigate, filter, and group data with the ease of a spreadsheet.
Custom forms and applications were generated to support quotation handling, supplier negotiations, and project tracking - all directly integrated with the ERP system.
This empowered HT BENDIX A/S to gain precise control over procurement costs and deliver optimal pricing to customers, improving decision-making and enhancing competitiveness.
HT BENDIX A/S remains actively involved in COMMON user communities across Europe and the US, both contributing to and learning from industry advancements in IBM i. The company is currently evaluating the integration of IBM Watson for cognitive capabilities, aiming to enhance decision automation and customer support.
HT BENDIX A/S continues to expand, confident that its investment in IBM i and Sitemule provides a robust, scalable, and future-ready foundation. The strategic implementation of Sitemule Hub and Sitemule Architect has been instrumental in harmonizing business processes, enhancing collaboration, and ensuring operational precision in a dynamic, competitive market.
