I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation for the opportunity to speak at the IBM Power 11 Seminar held in Copenhagen and Aarhus last week. I am equally grateful to the many engaged participants who listened with genuine interest and contributed to insightful questions throughout the sessions.
Rather than highlighting the impressive range of new capabilities introduced with IBM Power 11, I chose to address a more strategic and pressing issue - the future of the IBM i platform. The goal was not only to discuss innovation but to challenge how organizations think about adapting to it.
While many organizations continue to thrive on IBM i, others are struggling to keep pace with the growing demands from users, management, and regulatory authorities. My presentation primarily focused on these organizations - those who need immediate guidance and support to remain competitive and sustainable in today’s rapidly evolving environment.
A recurring misconception is that management’s motivation to migrate away from IBM i stems from IBM’s limited visibility in the media or insufficient engagement in education and training. In most cases, however, these are not the real reasons.
The root cause often lies within outdated, inflexible software solutions and a reluctance to embrace modern tools and technologies already available on IBM i.
Admittedly, this message can be uncomfortable. Yet, to provide meaningful help, it is vital for customers to understand why management feels compelled to consider expensive and risky migrations. Only by acknowledging the “why” can organizations begin working on the “how” - developing actionable strategies to modernize, adapt, and thrive without abandoning the IBM i platform.

To better understand why some organizations face these challenges today and how they can revitalize their IBM i environments, I invite you to read the following article: We had to evolve - and so must you!

The positive feedback and active engagement during the seminars made it clear that the message resonated strongly with many attendees. My hope is that this conversation continues - and that every IBM i professional recognizes the critical role they play in sustaining, modernizing, and advancing the platform for years to come.
